The Manufacturing Technology - Medical Devices Technology Specialization Associate of Applied Science degree prepares students for the growing branch of the life sciences industry that designs, develops, and manufactures medical devices in the Central Texas area. Graduates will have developed skills that support the engineers in the design and development process with rapid prototyping, routine measurements, data analysis, verification and troubleshooting, while being aware and following the pertinent regulatory requirements for documentation, risk and usability analysis, validation and post market surveillance.
To receive an Associate of Applied Science degree in the Engineering Technology program, students must: (a) make a minimum grade of C in all required electronic, math, and science courses and (b) have an overall GPA of 2.0 or greater.
The Engineering Technology program at Austin Community College offers several degree options to cater to students' specific career goals. Students can earn an Engineering Technology Associate of Applied Science degree, and/or one of several certificates, offered in different specializations within the program. Degree specializations are centered on a common set of electronics courses, called the Electronics Common Core Curriculum (ECCC) which are required to be completed in each specialization. To earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in the Engineering Technology program, a student would complete the ECCC, as well as a set of courses satisfying the college`s General Education requirements and all courses required within the student`s choice of specialization.
To earn a second degree in the Engineering Technology program, a student could simply take the additional courses required in one of the other specializations. Students transferring to four-year programs should always consult with their program advisor or articulation officer from their receiving institutions. The program offers many student scholarships, encourages students to do industry internships, and prides itself in developing very strong industry relationships.
